(Un)safe Use of the Internet by Young Adults – a Report from Research

Anna Katarzyna Wiatrowska

Abstract

The primary focus of this article is to present the existing literature on the concept of social resilience and its development and strengthening in the context of natural hazards caused by climate change. The analysis includes definitions and the most commonly distinguished elements of social resilience, as well as methods of its conceptualization depending on the geographical region and specific climatic threats, such as floods, droughts, hurricanes, and rising sea levels. The study employs the desk research method, involving analysis of international literature on the subject, based on which an attempt was made to comprehensively present various aspects of social resilience and its conceptualization. A particular emphasis in this manuscript is placed on the description of the BRIC index, as an example of an effective method for measuring social resilience. This index allows for the assessment of a community’s ability to adapt and survive in the face of climate crises, which is crucial for future research and public policies.
