Die Entwicklung des buddhistischen Symbols Vajra
Abstract
Der Artikel unternimmt den Versuch, die Hauptentwicklungsrichtungen des Symbols Vajra im vor-tantrischen Buddhismus zu identifizieren. Um dieses Ziel zu erreichen, wurde eine kritische Synthese der Ergebnisse zeitgenössischer Forschungen vorgenommen und durch Verweise auf ausgewählte Quellentexte ergänzt. Es scheint, dass im vor-tantrischen Buddhismus Vajra, verstanden als Blitz, vor allem zum Symbol für die Fähigkeit wurde, alles vorsätzliche oder moralische Böse abzuwehren, während Vajra, identifiziert mit einem Diamanten, hauptsächlich die Unabhängigkeit vom natürlichen Bösen (einschließlich der eigenen bösen Neigungen) repräsentierte. Diese beiden Entwicklungslinien verschmolzen im Symbol des Vajra, das für den tantrischen Buddhismus charakteristisch ist.
