Cybersecurity content in the process of student learning using original teaching videos

Jacek Jędryczkowski

Abstract

The article discusses the course and results of research aimed at analyzing the use of original video content in the learning process of students. Cybersecurity materials were developed for information technology classes conducted at the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Zielona Góra. The videos were published on YouTube and the university’s websites. This allowed all forms of interaction with the video material to be recorded by the YouTube Analytics system. Access to the reports obtained in this way enabled the assessment of the viewership of educational materials, as well as the analysis of strategies used in the learning process by students and the general internet audience. It was found that the videos were viewed over 40,000 times and watched for over 1,200 hours, justifying the need to create such content. Various learning strategies were also observed, depending on the content of the video. The use of theoretical and practical materials differed. The existence of strategies involving intensive scrolling of videos to quickly reach interesting topics was also confirmed. This process intensified in the case of longer videos. Based on the research conclusions, actions will be taken to achieve the practical goal of developing further educational materials.
