Philippe Antoine, Professor emeritus of French literature of the 19th century at the University of Clermont Auvergne, defended a thesis devoted to Chateaubriand's travel accounts, the revised version of which was published by Champion (1997). He presented a habilitation to direct research at the University of Paris-Sorbonne. The essay presented on this occasion, Quand le voyage devient promenade, was published by the Presses de l'Université de Paris-Sorbonne in 2011. Philippe Antoine's work focuses on Chateaubriand's work and the travel narrative during the Romantic period and, more recently, in the contemporary period. He contributes to the edition of Chateaubriand's complete works and directs the dictionary dedicated to this author. He is a member of the editorial board of the online journal Viatica, which he founded, and directs a series, "Voyages contemporains", in the Revue des lettres modernes (Minard).
